Twenty-four priestly courses: organised service, fairness and continuity
David, Zadok and Ahimelech organise the descendants of Aaron into twenty-four priestly courses. Sixteen come from Eleazar’s larger line and eight from Ithamar. Lots determine the order publicly, and the course of Abijah later appears in the New Testament.

10. Honest textual comparison is better than silent standardisation
Names should be preserved as the passages give them.
11. Equality in a procedure does not erase distinct offices
Priests and other Levites remain different in function.
12. Order should serve worship rather than bureaucracy for its own sake
The courses exist so service can continue faithfully.
13. Well-designed rotation can protect people from exhaustion
Shared responsibility supports long-term ministry.
